How It Works
Most receptions use 60-inch round tables seating 8 guests. You need about 12-15 sq ft per guest for comfortable seating with room to move, plus space for the dance floor and bar.
The Formula
Guest Tables = Ceiling((Guests - Head Table Seats) / Seats Per Table)
Venue Sq Ft = Table Area + Aisle Space (40%) + Dance Floor + Bar/DJ
Venue Sq Ft = Table Area + Aisle Space (40%) + Dance Floor + Bar/DJ
Variables
- Seats/Table — 60" round = 8, 72" round = 10, 6ft rect = 6, 8ft rect = 8
- Table Footprint — Space each table occupies including chair clearance
Example
150 guests, 60" rounds, head table: 140 remaining / 8 per table = 18 tables + 1 head = 19 total. About 3,200 sq ft needed.
Tips
- Leave 5-6 feet between tables for comfortable movement
- Round tables encourage better conversation among guests
- Long banquet tables create a dramatic look but require more room
- Place the head table where all guests can see the couple
